Congress in Utrecht will start with a selection of introductory tours taking place in the city itself and also in the neighbouring city of Amersfoort, which won the AoU's Urbanism Award for European City of the Year in 2023. These tours are a great way to get to know the host city / province and meet other delegates ahead of the remaining programme.

The full Congress programme and more event information can be found at theaou.org/utrecht

Amersfoort: Langs Eem en Spoor

BOOKING FULL

Revisiting the Academy’s 2023 European City of the Year, this will be a walking tour around De Nieuwe Stad, exploring the new city centre neighbourhood - 8000 homes built on a brownfield site – together with the developer.

The Nieuwe Stad is part of a larger development of 5,000 homes near the historic city centre called ‘Langs Eem en Spoor’. This larger area consists of four development areas, each with their own identity. The identity is mostly due to industrial cultural heritage. In the Nieuwe Stad you can see how this cultural heritage will be mixed with new developments.

Utrecht: Architecture walk

Home of sites like the Rietveld Schroder House and the Inktpot, this walking tour is an opportunity to explore Utrecht and its architecture through the centuries.

Utrecht: Wharves and canals walk

Utrecht: Housing walk

This walking tour will bring a new perspective and an often overlooked voice to the topic of housing and accessibility in Utrecht, as delegates explore Utrecht with someone who has experienced homelessness in the city.
