Jonathan is an Associate Architect with BDP for over 12 years. Originally from Ballygawley, Co.Tyrone he studied his Masters in Queens University Belfast and gained his Professional Diploma in Architecture with University College Dublin. He spent his early years working in London where he worked on large scale master planning projects in Cambridge, Paris and Madrid. Since moving back to Ireland he has a growing portfolio of work in Ireland and has been working on a number of projects in Galway City Centre including the Inner Harbour Masterplan, Bonham Quay Mixed Use Development and the Masterplanning of the Lands South of Ceannt Station named Augustine Hill.

Augustine Hill is an ambitious urban design led mixed use development. This development is situated to the south entrance of Ceannt Train Station on an elevated site with spectacular views over Galway Bay. Its location is a brownfield site which has been identified for high density regeneration under successive local development plans. The development represents an exciting expansion of the city centre though a series of new streets and public spaces defined by contemporary buildings that bring new life and activity to this underutilised part of the city. The development provides a well-connected, permeable and fully accessible urban streetscape that provides an enhanced setting to the protected former train shed and stables buildings which are re-imagined for retail and food and beverage use. Using the latest thinking in urban development, Augustine Hill emphasises a mixed-use approach encompassing residential, cultural, commercial and transport uses along with a new high quality pedestrian urban realm. The project has been designed and developed in response to extensive consultation with the public, stakeholders and Galway City Council.

Jonathan will speak as part of the Galway: A Work in Progress session on Thursday 27 April.
