Since 2021 Esther Agricola has been working for the largest area developer in the Netherlands, Bouwfonds Property Development,  in the position of Regional Director North-West Netherlands.

Esther studied political science and art history at the UVA and VU. In 2000 she became director of KEI Kenniscentrum Stedelijke Vernieuwing, a network and learning organization of more than 100 public and private parties, focused on cooperation and knowledge development around integral issues in urban renewal.

In 2007 she became director of Monuments & Archaeology at the municipality of Amsterdam. Her assignment:  developing the heritage agenda for Amsterdam, putting the 17th century canal belt on the UNESCO World Heritage List, attention for post-war heritage.

Since 2014 she has been director of Spatial Planning and Sustainability at the municipality of Amsterdam with the assignment: renewal of the spatial sector and development of the sustainability domain. In her portfolio she has: Koers 2025 (densification strategy , Haven-Stad, Leap over the IJ, Environmental Vision, Environmental Act, Urbanization Strategy MRA, Amsterdam Natural Gas Free, Amsterdam Climate Neutral, Circular Economy program.

Esther Agricola is a member of the Forum for Urban Renewal, Board of the International Federation of Housing and Planning, supervisory board Kadaster, Hendrick de Keijser, Stichting Rotterdam Maaskant en Oude Kerk.
