Eelco Eerenberg (D66) has been an alderman in Utrecht since 19 December 2019. He is responsible for the portfolio of Spatial Development, Education and Public Health.
In addition, he is also responsible for the Rijnenburg and Groot Merwede projects (Merwedekanaalzone, Stationsgebied, Westraven and A12-zone). He is also a district councillor for the Leidsche Rijn district. Eerenberg is also a member of the VNG committee Care, Youth and Education.
Eerenberg started his political career in Enschede, where he also studied. There he was a D66 faction representative and duo council member, before taking office as a council member in 2010. In addition, he worked as a 'talent scout' and later as a strategy advisor. In 2014 he was appointed alderman in Enschede. In 2019 he made the switch to the Domstad, where he became responsible for the restoration of our city icon, among other things.
Eerenberg calls his current portfolio one with a lot of future. Future for the city when it comes to building for future Utrechters, but also for the youngest future generation of Utrechters who already live here. That they can grow up healthy and happy in the city and go to school with pleasure.
In his spare time he likes to go out with his family, listen to his great hero Bruce Springsteen and sometimes pick up his own guitar.
Eelco will speak as part of the Utrecht: The story so far session on Wednesday 11 June
