When most people think of what makes up our urban environments, they think of buildings and roads, of offices and services, of people and culture. Fewer will think of the parks and rivers or the canals and plazas. But the Green and Blue infrastructure of our cities and towns is vital for our well-being and that of our places. Sometimes natural, and other times human-built, it all adds up as a connective tissue and the canvas for creating new social infrastructures.

With Utrecht as our canvas, this Workshop will examine its Utrecht 2040 work in more detail. Allowing grass to grow on tram tracks and using the city’s history of water management are two of the many approaches that embed more robust Green & Blue infrastructure in the city’s everyday life and its desire to adapt to climate change.
