Cities have been gathering places for as long as they’ve existed: housing people, providing venues for entertainment and enjoyment, as civic debating chambers, and places where countless billions have made careers and earned their income. But how we do these things is changing ever more rapidly. How will our cities keep pace with increasing levels of online shopping, fewer tourists arriving on fewer flights, and more people spending at least a few days a week working from home, amongst many other new 21st Century realities?

With Belfast City Council’s work for its collaborative ‘A Bolder Vision’ strategy and the cultural imprint of Cambridge’s experiential economy to prompt discussion, this Workshop will explore what we need to consider in preparing to reshape our cities for new realities. It will look at adapting our high streets and historic buildings, providing creative workspaces, and underscoring the importance of our places providing experiences for people.

Presenters: Callie Persic, Development Manager, City Regeneration & Development, Belfast City Council and Liz Hughes, Development Director, The Junction
