How do you create a new mixed and balanced urban community from the outset and respond to change over the long-term?

Key themes: Sustainable Design, Housing, Design Quality, Climate Adaptation, Community Placemaking

An emerging district two miles from the city centre, owned and developed by the University of Cambridge, Eddington is aiming to deliver a sustainable, affordable urban environment for university staff and scholars. Approximately 2,000 currently live there, while much of the area is still being constructed. Its growth is centred around green spaces and award-winning architecture, with the Storey’s Field Centre providing a civic heart, and a venue for the Academy of Urbanism tour.

This tour is led by:

  • Jonathan Rose, Masterplanning Director, Prior + Partners

With presenters:

  • Matthew Johnson, Interim Head of Development - North West Cambridge, University of Cambridge
  • Tom Hill, Managing Director, The Hill Group

  • Alexis Butterfield, Partner, Pollard Thomas Edwards

The Eddington learning tour will depart following morning plenary and lunch on Thursday 22 June. See full Congress programme at theaou.org/cambridge
