Bart van der Vossen is Director of Urban Development at the municipality of Utrecht. Before that, he worked as an architect and urban planner for over 25 years.

With his department, he works on the spatial development of the city from the disciplines of urban, spatial, economic development and mobility. Urbanization is not just building houses and roads, but also ensuring sufficient greenery, water, facilities, infrastructure and energy supply. Van der Vossen is committed to an integrated approach to spatial development in relation to social and societal challenges, aiming to create a better and more inclusive city. Healthy Urban Living for Everyone is the goal. City residents must be able to find everything they require within a 10-minute walk or bike ride.

In his spare time Van der Vossen is chairman of the Committee for the Preservation of Historic Buildings and Monuments in Amsterdam.

Bart will speak as part of the Utrecht: The story so far session on Wednesday 11 June
