Four shortlisting sessions for the 2026 Urbanism Awards will take place daily from Monday 23 to Thursday 26 February via Zoom, with each day focusing on a different category. Click here for all dates.

The European City of the Year category is open to any city in the UK or elsewhere in Europe with a population of more than 150,000.

Nominations are open until Sunday 15 February, after which a compilation of all valid entries in each category will be sent to the registered shortlisting panel to read in advance of the relevant session.

How does it work?

The goal of this session is to reach a proposed shortlist of three European City of the Year finalists based on nominations collected from our membership and wider audience.

The week before the session, those registered for the shortlisting panel will be sent a compilation of this category's nominees so that you have time to familiarise yourself with them ahead of the discussion.

During the Zoom session, we will go through each candidate alphabetically, with the assembled panel invited to contribute their perspectives. Subsequently, there will be a specific discussion / vote to agree the shortlist and back-ups.

The session will be held on Zoom and the link for this will be sent out with the nominees during the week beginning 17 February.

This session is open to both Academicians and Young Urbanists. We really encourage all to get involved, to contribute a range of perspectives and ideas to the discussion.

To enable fair discussion, you will not be able to join a shortlisting session for a category you have made a nomination in.

To sign up, log-in to your Member account and book the appropriate free ticket below. Please note that this only signs you up for European Cities shortlisting, and you should register individually for other sessions here.
