About the tour
This walking tour will follow the Glasgow Branch of the Forth and Clyde Canal, looking at regeneration along the canal corridor. This provides a loose geographical framework for a number of major housing-led regeneration projects to the north of the city centre, stretching westwards from Sighthill in the east, to Dundashill, Hamiltonhill, Ruchill and Maryhill.
But there's much more to it than that. The route of the canal provides greenspace, active travel, leisure amenity and watersports, a local nature reserve, heritage resources and moorings for 'living on water'. Its alter ego the 'smart canal' helps with adaptation to climate change by underpinning sustainable urban drainage in the area.

About David
David Horner spent most of his career working on long term urban regeneration programmes in Glasgow and Leeds. A retired town planner and surveyor, he teaches part-time at Glasgow Caledonian University. He is also an independent member of the Board of the community-controlled Queen’s Cross Housing Association, one of the partners in the redevelopment of Hamiltonhill on the north bank of the canal.
