A key element of the Academy's annual Congress is taking every opportunity to get to know the city, and not staying put in one place because it's convenient. This includes using different venues that showcase different parts of Cambridge's story.
In this article you will learn about our 5 key venues for Congress 2023: Designing for the Future taking place next month in Cambridge.
Welcome Reception - Wednesday 21 June
The Museum of Zoology
This drinks reception on the first night of Congress acts as a welcome to the event and the coming days. It will be held at the Museum of Zoology, housed in the redeveloped David Attenborough Building, which is home to over 2 million objects.
Morning Plenary - Thursday 22 June
The first full day of Congress will kick off at the Cambridge Union, a place which has been a hub for debate and free speech since 1815. The framed photos on its walls boast a legacy of renowned contributors, from Emma Thompson to Theodore Roosevelt.
Civic Reception - Thursday 22 June
A key civic building that sits proudly on Cambridge's Market Square, this is an opportunity for welcome to the city by the Council. Congress delegates will gather here after Thursday afternoon's Learning Tours to share their lessons before moving onto the drinks reception.
All Day Plenary and Workshops - Friday 23 June
The Corn Exchange
Named for its orginal use in the 1800s, the Corn Exchange is Cambridge's leading live entertainment venue. Speakers and panelists will take to the stage just a few days after Richard Thompson, with the audience sat where crowds once gathered for the likes of David Bowie.
Congress Dinner - Friday 23 June
Murray Edwards College
The final night's Congress Dinner celebrations will take place at the University of Cambridge's Murray Edwards College, home to Europe's largest collection of contemporary art by women. The dinner itself will take place in the college's iconic Dome, a staple of its brutalist architecture.
