Introduction

We are thrilled to announce a brand new collaboration between the Academy of Urbanism, Conran and Partners, and you!

This competition, aimed at students and early career professionals, invites designers and creative minds to showcase their ideas in a window display at Conran and Partners’ studio located in the heart of Clerkenwell, London. Clerkenwell, known for its vibrant community and rich history, provides the perfect backdrop for an innovative and eye-catching installation.

The competition draws its thematic inspiration from this year’s London Festival of Architecture and the winning entry will be on display for the duration of the June 2024 event.

About the Collaborators

The Academy of Urbanism

The Academy of Urbanism (AoU) is a multi-disciplinary membership organisation dedicated to promoting vibrant, sustainable, and inclusive urban environments. With a focus on fostering excellence in urban design, the Academy of Urbanism aims to inspire and celebrate innovative solutions that enhance the quality of life in our cities.

Conran and Partners

Conran and Partners is an internationally renowned architecture and interior design practice, founded by Sir Terence Conran.

With studios in London and Hong Kong, Conran and Partners’ portfolio extends around the world and embraces a rich and varied range of cultures, typologies and scales.

Conran and Partners delivers award-winning buildings and spaces, that endeavour to be progressive and sustainable. This is achieved through a carefully considered and collaborative design process that addresses the needs and desires of the users, as well as the wider environment.

Design Requirements

Your window display should embody the spirit of urbanism, innovation, and community, with a particular focus on the theme of 'Reimagine'. Using the theme of the London Festival of Architecture’s 20th anniversary, the brief presents an opportunity for you to craft your view of the London skyline in 20 years’ time.

We encourage participants to explore concepts that challenge convention and offer a fresh perspective on urban living. Consider how your design can contribute to shaping a future skyline that reflects the evolving needs, aspirations, and sustainability goals of this dynamic city.

You can download the window specifications here to help with the details of your design.

Budget

Participants will be allocated a budget of £500 to bring their design concept to life. Your entry should be detailed and include a breakdown of expenses such as materials (preferably recycled), technology, labour, and any additional costs associated with the installation.

Creativity in budget allocation is encouraged, and participants should demonstrate a thoughtful and resourceful approach to maximize the impact of their design within the given financial constraints.
